The Cardigan sweater acquired its namesake from James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan — the British commander most famously associated with leading the Charge of the Light Brigade. Following a historically foolhardy defeat, Brudenell’s name slipped into posthumous infamy, but the Cardigan sweater was born. Look smart and sound smart as you recite the history of the Cardigan — the quintessential piece of academic attire.
