Wii Like It - First Impressions Of The Nintendo Wii
Posted: Monday, December 11, 2006

In North America, the system comes with a pack-in game, Wii Sports. Don't expect to be blown away graphically. Some of it looks as if it could've been done on the N64. But graphics aren't the attraction here. Basically a glorified system demo, Wii Sports contains simplified versions of tennis, golf, boxing, baseball, and the games best showing, bowling. Boxing is the only game that uses the Nunchuk, but its the bowling that you and your friends will go back to. You pull the Wii-Mote back, holding the B trigger, and swing forward in a bowling motion, flicking your wrist for spin and releasing the trigger to bowl the ball. Its natural and just plain fun.

There is more to the Wii than just the controller, such as self-made, trade-able avatars (your Mii) and downloadable classic games from Nintendo, and Sega's past. But the draw here is the way you play these games, and for that it is worth the $250 price tag right now. You'll be finding yourself satisfied with the pack-in game alone, let alone sure-to-be-hits like Zelda: Twilight Princess and the forthcoming Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Try the Wii, and you'll be hooked.
