Valentine's Day Gift Ideas In New York
Posted: Monday, February 12, 2007
By: Joseph Campanale

Nothing says I put absolutely no thought into your Valentine’s gift (or I just happened to be at a suburban shopping mall and thought of you) like a gold box of Godiva chocolates and a dozen roses. If you want to show her you care, or entice her with delicious treats try the following:

Chikalicious – New York’s first dessert bar serves precious (read:tiny) three course dessert tasting menus ($12) that are prepared with a meticulous eye and loving hand. $3.50 gets you a personal French filled with coffee or loose tea but spring the extra $7 for the wine pairing. To put the proverbial cherry atop the pumpkin-caramel trifle, this sugar-nook is run by a married couple, chef/owner Chika Tillman and Owner/Sommelier Don Tillman. No reservations.

Kee’s Chocolates – Straight out of the movie Chocolat; 6 days a week Kee Ling Tong is to be found making chocolates at her tiny Soho shop. She only sells what she can make in the day so you are guaranteed the freshest chocolates in the city. Kee Ling imports the finest ingredients from around the world, including yuzu from Japan, sea salt from France and saffron from Spain. She makes chocolates for all tastes including: black sesame, balsamic, Thai chili, Champagne, honey safron, smoked salt and of course, passion fruit. Chocolates are $1.75 each. Purchased exclusively at the shop.

80 Thompson St. New York, NY 100012

For the girl who is a kid at heart or if you’re feeling a bit playful: try Jacques Torres’ Chocolate covered-Cheerios at $5 a bag.
350 Hudson St., nr. Charlton St.
