Turn to the Dark Side - Denim Trends
Posted: Monday, October 16, 2006

I would never recommend sacrificing food (or rent) for fashion. This season, however, you might have to squeeze your budget into a good-fitting pair of jeans.

Jeans are now versatile fashion items, but contrary to most guys thinking, they need to be updated. The destroyed, washed-out denim of two seasons ago is now pass. This season, denim trends are leaning toward dark, clean styles, which can take you from casual to dressy in a snap.

Unless you list rock star as your occupation, the seasons trendiest fitthe skinny legmight be difficult for most to pull off. It works best on pencil-thin frames. If you absolutely must have a pair of drainpipes (as we in the fashion industry like to call them), remember to balance your proportions. Wear a loose-fitting top and some killer shoes or sneakers.

I prefer another hot denim trendthe straight legbecause its a little more forgiving to varied body types. I find that straight leg jeans are easier for guys to transition from morning office meetings to late-night club hopping (if a guy can get away with denim in the workplace). As with the skinny fit, straight jeans show off your footwear, so make sure your slippers are clean.
