Your virgin visit to Hawaii can hurt you if you don't do research. There are plentiful historic locations and activities, so you don’t want to feel overwhelmed or waste money. Instead, go with a package from Sun Trips or Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays. They’re companies that put together packages for first-timers on a variety of vacation spots for a smoother transition into your destination, including Lei greetings at the airport, round trip service to your hotel, souvenirs and island presentations. Sun Trips and Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays are great for those who want a good deal and amazing experience. Prices vary, but packages start at $850 per person for seven days and six nights.

If you’ve already been to Hawaii and know the area, then you can book the airfare and hotel yourself. Airfare runs at about $450 from September to December from JFK Airport in Queens, NY. The hotel accommodations are reasonable too, but you will have to search for the places that you want to stay. If you’re not familiar with the area, then you might end up 10 blocks from the beach.

Kills the experience, right?

My dad once booked at the Hawaiian Monarch hotel in Waikiki because of the fabulous rooftop swimming pool, but when we got there, we found out the hotel was nowhere near the beach and nowhere near the popular shops and charming marketplaces.
