I enjoy ringing in a new year. It’s a time to take stock of life, clean the slate and begin anew. Unfortunately, people often mistake this time for creating impossible resolutions for their particular lives. (“I promise this year will be the year I start going to the gym at least three times a week!”)
I believe the best way to enact dramatic change is to think small. For example, say you want to look more adult and also want to work on your chronic tardiness? A simple, yet elegant stainless steel or titanium watch will give you the sleek look you crave, and help you be on time. Take a look at the following resolutions and see how a slight upgrade can help you resolve both personal and style issues.
The Upgrade At least two pairs of dark wash denims
Resolution To not to look like geek in khakis anymore; to be able to go from a semi-casual office to cocktails to dinner without looking out of place.
The UpgradeUnderwear in different styles (e.g., boxers, briefs, boxer briefs, seamless, etc.)
ResolutionTo stop having permanent wedgies when I walk
The UpgradeA grooming kit
ResolutionTo finally take care of that pesky forest growing in my nostrils/ears; to look more professional at work and presentable to dates
The UpgradeA good skin care regimen according to your skin type
ResolutionTo clear up any skin problems; to make better first impressions
The UpgradeProper storage tools for your apparel and accessories (cedar blocks for freshness, shoe trees, durable hangers for pants, shirts and suits, preferably wood, a proper tie and belt rack, etc.)
ResolutionTo not look like a schlep; for my closet to look like a grown man’s and not a college student’s (no more wire hangers!)
The UpgradeA hot pair of sunglasses
ResolutionTo look younger and cooler; to understand that even one good accessory can make me look worth flirting
The UpgradeAt least one dress shirt/tie combo that says you have good taste
ResolutionTo ace the interview for that perfect job; to never, ever think that a red tie and white shirt is a cool look. Unless I’m an investment banker…no, not even then
The UpgradeA style dream team: tailor, drycleaner, shoe repairperson, hairstylist, dermatologist, dentist and if you can afford it, a personal shopper
ResolutionResolving that often times changing for the better requires professional help
Want more? Send me your resolutions, and I will tell you little style upgrades you can make that could enhance your life.
Happy New Year!
