When it comes to facial hair, I’ve always wanted to have that celebrity/grunge look. How can I manage and maintain the perfect level of scruff without looking like I’m trying too hard?
–SteveSteve,When it comes to the “scruffy” look, confidence is king. If you feel like you are trying too hard or are just plain uncomfortable with the way you look, you will send out those critical vibes to others. That being said, the first step in maintaining your facial hair is to find the desired length.
Proper scruff should not look like you:1) Shaved yesterday.
2) Have a short/full beard.
For the average guy, 2-3 days is about right. Keep track of when you last shaved and find your day. Naturally patchy hair is conducive to this look, but if you have a full beard, this will require some hair shaping accomplished by varying the clipper settings on your beard trimmer and using a small scissor.
When shaping your facial hair, it is important to be honest with yourself. The maintenance of your facial hair should compliment your facial features, not conflict with them. If you have very round features, make sure you sharpen your facial hair. If you have sharp features, round off your scruff.
Best,
John
