Defy natureJust like the boy scouts, a good, smart tailgating host should always be prepared. Before heading to stadium, keep a solid inventory of what youll need for the day. Dont forget your general necessities, including lawn or folding chairs, utensils and a portable TV or radio to cover the days pre-game festivities or to listen to the game if you ate too much to reach the stadium for kickoff.
If Mother Nature causes a pile-on shower, Largent recommends some special gear at low cost.
With the advent of the portable canopy, many people find this an affordable and convenient option at around $100 for great pre-game covering, Largent said. Many canopy companies now offer team or school custom logos, so you can still express your loyalty while staying safe from the elements.
Hot off the grillNow that youve got your handy weather-resistant coverings secured, its time to fire up the portable grill. Ultimately, finding the right fit may well depend on whatever floats your boat.
The fundamental debate: charcoal or gas?
There is no question that setup time and ease of use is owned by the gas grill, but grilling purists will argue that charcoal grills produce superior flavor, Largent said. I guess one of the things I would look for is portability. If you have a pickup, you are open to more options because of your ability to get larger grills to the parking lot.
Of course, portability could determine which grill to buy. You may have to make compromises when buying for storage convenience.
