Sepia – Chicago, United StatesAlinea might be the most avant-garde restaurant in the Windy City, but right now, all the locals are clamoring to get a table at
Sepia. Set in an old print shop, the space has loft-like space and maintains some vintage touches like exposed brick and old steel doors. It’s just the sort of industrial,
roaring-twenties style that made America cool in the first place.
As for the food, the
menu pairs up interesting flavors with dishes like
smoked bacon, peach and blue cheese flatbread, and explores interesting ingredients - highlighting the subtle flavor of veal breast with mint noodles and cipollini onions. And if all else fails, you can always order the potatoes smothered in luscious duck fat – why don’t more restaurants do that anyways?
If you can’t make it for dinner, at least stop in for a drink. An impressive cocktail selection keeps the bar humming through the night. You’ll find all of your grandfather’s favorites here, with some smart updates. Cognac is traded for
Calvados on the
Sidecar and local peaches get smashed into the Bourbon-based
Old-Fashioned. This is a real bar, so bitters and fresh ingredients are in full-force; frankly we think it’s a god-send after years of
Grey-Goose purgatory.
