The year 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Sal Bracco Watches, a tiny but tidy shop located downtown on the Bowery. Run by Mr. Bracco, a seasoned veteran who is frequently consulted by fellow watchmakers for advice, the shop specializes in Rolex repair, but often works on antique and vintage timepieces dating all the way back to the late 19th century. The store also holds a large stock of vintage watch pieces and crystal, meaning it can often restore older models with period materials. However, that’s not to say that this store is stuck in the past. Mr. Bracco uses modern techniques like ultrasonic cleaning, which he explains can gently remove the most stubborn grime from each miniscule piece in a way traditional methods cannot, often making the mechanics look brand new. With all work done by Mr. Bracco himself, you won’t be able to find a more reliable and reasonable place to get your watch ticking again.
