I asked my boyfriend Steven, who has been on a never-ending quest for the right products, to try the line. I chastise him for washing his face with soap because it’s overly drying (he has sensitive skin), and for moisturizing his skin with body lotion. Unfortunately he’s resorted to these methods because he’s uncomfortable using women’s products and is tired of wasting money on products that promise but don’t deliver.
He committed to using Mensgroom for a week. He started with the Be Cleansed My Son cleanser which claims to “reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve skin firmness and counteracts irritating skin conditions.” For a man in his 30’s, this is important to him, although he would never openly admit it. He wavers between clean-shaven and bearded, so he used Soothe the Shaven Beast aftershave balm.
Steven was expecting the products to smell harsh and have a woodsy scent, like many of the things he’s tried before. However, he said all the products smelled great with light scents that were soft, but not flowery feminine. After using the cleanser he said it felt “light, not at all drying,” while the after shave cream left his face so soft, there was no need for a moisturizer.
For his body, Steven wouldn’t try the Daily Shower Power gel scrub (something about the word “scrub”), opting to stick with his tried-and-true Dove soap. But he did use the Sore No More muscle cool down lotion, which he said felt relaxing on his skin after a hot evening shower.
Mensgroom products are simple, unpretentious, and best of all, natural. See the sidebar for a full product list. They’re all available on their
cheeky site (read “The Washroom Guy Breaks it Down” for a good laugh).
When trying to impress the honeys at the office holiday party this year, remember when it comes to grooming, think “clean”: clean hair, clean face, clean breath, clean body, clean nails, and a clean, simple routine.
Happy Holidays!
