Karaoke Survival Guide - 5 Top Songs

1. "Don’t Stop Believing" by Journey - Always a fan favorite, this track has single-handedly allowed cover bands to procreate since its release in 1981.

2. "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond - The theme song of sororities far and wide...it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

3. "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi - Twice as effective in New Jersey. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to work her docks.

4. "Brown-Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison - If you’re going to serenade someone with this one, make sure she has brown eyes.

5. "Piano Man" by Billy Joel - Strut your stuff as you deftly crank out the middle verses that everyone is too drunk to remember. This one’s a must.

Songs to Avoid: Sure, the girls might be going nuts for ABBA, Madonna or the Spice Girls, but they sure as hell don’t expect you to do the same. You might know the lyrics to “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme,” but that’s nothing to be proud of. Also, try to avoid songs with long instrumentals, unless you can work the crowd while your voice rests up for that final pick-up line. Choose your battles wisely and win the war.
