Truman's was founded by three professional men who were tired of having their hair cut at intimidating hair salons that cater primarily to women. They wanted to create a comfortable place with the service and atmosphere of an old-school barbershop but with a modern, high-end (but not high-brow) upgrade. To bring their vision to life, they enlisted the legendary Larry Bogdanow (the visionary behind locations such as Union Square Café and City Hall) who created a timeless, masculine space anchored by a large oval bar and private and semi-private treatment rooms.
