Dear Doc,
I occasionally get pimples on my penis. Is this common? –Anson

Anson,
I’m sorry to say – your penis is not a site for acne. What you thought was a pimple can be a variety of things including recurring herpes or venereal warts. But on a lighter note, your affliction might be an infected hair follicle or irritated skin gland. Or, if you’ve had recent sexual activity, a friction abrasion as a result of poor lubrication.

Without seeing your condition first hand, it is impossible to make an accurate assessment – but be realistic with yourself. How severe is your outbreak? Genital Herpes is most intense in the first outbreak, but this is less so now. If you have legitimate concerns, visit your doctor and request a blood test.
