Health Tip - Casual Smoking Versus Casual Drinking
Posted: Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Casual Smoker

Dear Doc,
What is more detrimental to my workouts – casual drinking or casual smoking? –Frank

Frank,
Whereas the casual drinker tends to remain an intermittent drinker, unfortunately casual smoking often results in permanent smoking and the addiction capacity is as high as heroin. But beyond the addictive properties of each respective vice, smoking will have a more direct impact on your workouts. Smoking causes bronchial constriction, reducing your capacity for effective exercise. If you find yourself smoking directly before a workout, the negative effects are further amplified.
