So after countless nights dropping your hard earned cash at the New York City bars and clubs, you finally found that woman of your dreams, or more likely “Ms. Right Now,” that you want to impress. Why not take her out for the full NYC shebang? Dinner, a Broadway show, drinks and extracurricular activities would make the complete night. However, a Broadway show can burn a hole in your wallet, and let’s not even consider dinner and drinks. These extravagant nights could cost half a month’s rent—you can’t afford that.
Although Broadway.com offers tickets to all shows, there are avenues that can keep some cash in your pocket. Individual theatre box offices will present the small amount of available tickets at skyrocketing prices—that’s when you might need to line up with the millions of tourists and show buffs at the famous TKTS booths, located at both Times Square and South Street Seaport. These havens boast discounts of 25, 35 and 50 percent for specific shows posted at the ticket windows.
Deals only apply the day of the performance. TKTS only accepts cash and travelers cheques, so make sure to hit up an ATM before playing the waiting game.
If the TKTS lines stretch from Harlem to Houston, here are some other options:
• BroadwayBox.com offers discount codes and instructions on how to purchase Broadway tickets in advance for TKTS prices.
• HitShowClub.com also offers two-fers and other discounted tickets, but there are black-out dates mostly on Saturday evening performances. You could either request them at the box office, phone, mail or online.
• Theatermania and ShowsonBroadway are membership clubs that offer at least 50% discount on tickets, with varying annual subscription rates. Once again, beware of blackout dates. Also, you can go to Play by Play, located on 165 West 46th St, Suite 412, (between Sixth & Seventh Aves), 212-868-7052
