It’s always beneficial to “look the part.” Flipping through some old vacation photographs earlier this week I was reminded of a trip to San Onofre. With gorgeous beaches only accessible via trails cut into sandstone bluffs, San Onofre is a beach where California natives reside. One warm August afternoon I lay tanning on a rocky strip of beach popular amongst surfers. As the sun was facilitating a golden slumber I was awoke by laughter. I flipped over to see what the joke was.
The joke happened to be a very pasty French man sporting a bright red Speedo. The laughter was emanating from a small group of board-shorted surfers. “Boy does this guy seem out of place” was running through everyone’s mind.
Back to reality. It’s cold outside. Winter has finally arrived — and so comes the opportunity for some snowy fun. Alas, most ski resort vacationers are ill equipped to hit the slopes. The surfers in San Onofre were thoroughly amused by a mis-dressed Frenchman. The natives of the Okemo tribe will share a chuckle at your expense if they see you shredding the pow-pow in a Pea Coat.
