Some Straight Information On The Prostate, by Shell Tzorfas

Written by: Shell Tzorfas

According to the Ohio State Medical Center, the prostate gland surrounds the neck of a man’s bladder and Urethra; it is the tube that carries urine from the bladder. It is partly muscular and partly glandular. It secretes a slightly alkaline fluid that becomes part of the seminal fluid, which carries sperm.

This gland seems to grow in size during puberty, and again during a man’s forties and fifties. It is described as the size of a walnut. The problem comes in when it grows so large that it interferes with urination. It may be difficult to begin urinating or to empty the bladder. Frequency and urgency can cause discomfort. Infection, kidney problems and stones can develop. Then there is “Nocturia,” which is getting-up multiple times throughout the night. That will interfere with the Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep, known as “REM.” “REM” is the deep, restorative sleep that we all need for optimal health. [Read more...]
