3.
Danzante Pinot Grigio (2006) from Italy is fruity and slightly sweet, unlike the run-of-the-mill Pinot Grigio. This grape, well known in Italy and in Europe at large for centuries, is now being freely vented in this country. And here we have another example of collaboration, this time Italian-American. The well-known Frescobaldi vineyards are working with Robert Mondavi wineries from California to produce this joint venture single varietal.
4. Our next choice takes Robert Mondavi even further from home. In
Talomas (2003) we have a Chardonnay blended with the lesser-known Viognier grape (originally from France). The result is well balanced yet zesty. This well-valued wine is a result of the family winegrowing partnership of Mondavi and Bob Oatley, the founder of Australia’s famous and well-respected Rosemount Estate. We’ve all seen the influx of Australian wines lately, especially the ones with all the critters on the labels. Well, Rosemount dates well before the lizards, the toads, the kangaroos and the dingoes, etc. - this wine comes from California’s Central Coast.
