After years of exile in retirement home closets the cardigan is finally making a return to cool. That's right, the same sweater best known for gracing the wardrobe of Fred Rodgers has made its way to designer collections and is even filtering down to the mainstream, albeit with a few modern adjustments.
It`s about time, too; cardigans are one of the more versatile pieces of clothing in any man`s closet because they`re easy to dress up or wear casually. Put a cardigan over a shirt and tie, or even under a suit on Monday and it looks just as good when you switch to jeans and t-shirt on Saturday. Just make sure you pay attention to the fit when you`re in the store; cardigans are meant to fit snug against your chest and shouldn`t pool at your waist or sag in the arms. After all, the last thing you want is to look like you pulled something from Mr. Rodger`s closet.
StripesLooking at store shelves, a striped style cardigan certainly seems to be the most popular. Not that we`re complaining; a thin stripe is a great way to add a burst of color and contrast into your look without overwhelming it. In small doses you can get away with almost anything, so don`t be afraid to look at colors outside your comfort zone.
